surrounding it, once you leave the pittsburgh metropolitan area, which is democratic, you run into the old mining and miltown areas where coal and steel and lead and paint and glass -- all those industries that may pennsylvania economy dominate, in particular steel and coal, over the course of about 40 years after world war ii, those industries went away. the economy suffered and suffered severely. the voters out there are typically democratic blue-collar working-class men and women, roman catholic in religion -- certainly not all of them, and pro-union. these were the quintessential reagan democrats. they were in counties adjacent to pittsburgh like beaver and westmorland and washington and corrine and further to the east -- kim-shree and fayette. those counties have a propensity to vote republican, particularly in the elections. they are culturally conservative, pro-gun, pro-life, not particularly fond of gay- rights. then think of pennsylvania, draw a big t up the center of the state, fanned out across the new york border, not quite getting to erie or the northeastern part of the state,

through two east bay cities ending in pittsburgh. that's where "today in the bay's" christy smith joins us live. i understand there was a pretty clarifying ending to it all. >> well, i tell you, antioch police have their hands full investigating a wild car jacking. it involveded two cars, two cities and a crash that ended right here behind me in pittsburgh, near an ihop restaurant where the alleged car jacker lost control, smashed into a tree here. it looks like if that tree weren't there, it's possible they could have crashed into the restaurant which actually was open at the time. it started last night with antioch police receiving a report of a car jacking of two people at tenth and g streets as they left the restaurant. they were assaulted by a man and a woman and suffered minor injuries. police got another call of an accident, a car accident on contra loma. the driver was seen leaving. pittsburgh police then spotted that car. there was a short chase through the streets. and the driver lost control and crashed here. 41-year-old antioch resident isidor galley was arrested and p

because the nats found out and all their fans at around 9:45 when the pittsburgh pirates up in pittsburgh beat the atlanta braves. so with that the nats became the national league east champions. here, this is from masn what it looked like inside. the place went nuts. it was between the top and bottom of the 9th inning here and the nats are down 2-0 at the point, but because the braves lost in pittsburgh the nats are nl east champs. take a look at these people, going crazy still. story you just told, it all ended here where we're standing in pittsburgh this morning, where that driver lost control, jumped the curb and crashed into a tree. behind this tree is an ihop restaurant that was open at the time. police still looking for another this morn. an suv and a tree. this started last night when police got a report that two people were leaving a restaurant. they were assaulted and car jacked. the suspect in that, a man and a woman. about an hour later, police say that honda was involved in a crash over on contra loma and the driver was seen jumping into another car and leaving the scene. then pittsburgh police see that second car. there's a chase through the street ending in that crash here at east leeland and lovage right at the ihop. the driver was arrested. police say he's got quite a record, convictions for car thef theft, burglary. he's charged with possession of stolen property. police still looking for that woman who was involved in the initial car jacking. reporting live in pittsburgh, christy smith, "today in the bay." >>> now to decision 2012. the la

was in pittsburgh over the weekend, but that's the vice president. that could be a head fake. if you see the presidential candidate, mitt romney, going into michigan or pennsylvania, then obama is in trouble. >> the debate will focus on foreign policy. the response to the attack in benghazi continues to dominate headlines. on the jon stewart show, the president said talking about the victims, it was not optimal. >> that was a terrible statement. i can't use another -- and i'm sure mitt romney will refer to it. the mother of one of the people who died in benghazi said my son was not optimal and he's very dead. it's just -- really almost rivals the 47%. why the president would use that term, that cold heartless kind of expression and if he misspoke, it's a terrible misstatement, and i think it will haunt him and he'll have to make up for it or actually even apologize for the use of that word. there's no justification. terrible choice of words. >> we'll have to watch and see what happens tomorrow night. as always, mark plotkin thank you for your insight. i'm sure i'll be talking to you
